Case Study - Career Ramblings Dec 2006
Career Ramblings was an idea my partner John Anthony and I came up with toward the end of last summer. We wanted to combine our expertise and create a site that would be a helpful resource to young professionals to assist them in their professional and personal development. By the time we did all our research and were ready to launch the site, it was the end of November.
The Launch - December 2006
We originally got the domain name Rich Dad Says dot com for the website because of the familiarity so many people have with the “Rich Dad” concept started by Robert Kiyosaki. Our December stats were:
- Pageviews: 1,761 / biggest single day: 157 uniques
- Adsense Income: $71.82
- Advertising Costs: $0
- Time spent planning and marketing CR: a lot!
We thought that was not bad for our first month but our plans were to grow the site to a much larger level. We stayed realistic about what it would take to grow the site and were willing to work hard at it. We also made the difficult decision of switching names for our site because “Rich Dad Says” was not very brandable and we would always be in the shadow of the real Rich Dad. We did not want to piggy back on anyone else’s brand so we knew we had to make the switch sooner rather than later (even thought it would cost us some of our current traffic). Check back for our January 2007 update coming up in the next couple days.

Those seem to be pretty good numbers for the 1st month of blogging. I’m most amazed at the amount of adsense money you generated. I’m still trying to figure out the best way to monetize my site with adsense.
Yeah. I’ll blog about this later, but it primarily has to do with the niche we have, positioning of adsense, and a few other tweaks here and there.
Our revenues now from adsense are our biggest money maker.
You have a quite high eCPM for CareerRamblings. With only 1700++ pageviews, but you can earn USD71 from adsense. You must have a very good monetization plan applied on that blog.
Yes it was very high our first month. At that time the ad colors were blended well with the site, but they were obnoxiously in your face and large. You almost had to read all the ads before getting to the content. Obviously that is not the way to build a loyal reader base so we’ve since cut back significantly.
I just received a marketing email from you. The email automatically went into my spam mail box. I think that there must be many people flagging your marketing email as spam.
So, it is advisable to stop it now. Anyway, the email did attract me to visit your blog again.
Do you mean the email I sent you for leaving your first comment? That wasn’t a marketing email, that was a thank you email. Sorry if you took it as spam. Note taken.
